Slovenian Bowling Association of Victoria

It started in 1974, to create an opportunity for the Slovenian Clubs in Victoria to compete in a friendly atmosphere and thereby creating a type of unity between the participating Clubs.
Each year there is a competition with teams comprising of 3 men’s triples and either one ladies quad or two doubles. Each Club then hosts a competition where teams compete against each other and at the end of the season all the results are collated and the winners are awarded trophies at the annual Bowlers? Presentation Night (usually in May) and is held at one of the Clubs on a rotating basis.

Associations

Slovenian settlers began to establish associations wherever they found themselves themselves in any large numbers. They began by meeting in private homes, invested considerable energy into acquiring real estate, which could be converted and-or built on.

Wherever large blocks of land were available and there were skilled builders in the group, they bought the land and built club premises suitable for gathering, dancing and eating. Later they added sport facilities such as basket ball, soccer and particularly bowling.

An important feature of all these associations was a lively cultural life, with celebration of traditional Slovenian feast-days, and special festivities with performances of various kinds, in which the youngest members were always included.
