Slovenian Children's Literature - Forget-Me-Nots/Spominčice series


The first bilingual series of story books (English and Slovenian), beautifully illustrated for children from ages five to ten by awarding-winning writers of Slovenia, has been published from 2006 to 2009 by Sodobnost International and Vodnikova Publishing House.
The series, initiated by writer and editor Jana Bauer, was launched in Ljubljana in December 2006 at the leading publishing house Mladinska Knjigarna, with the first "In the Land of Gingerbread" by Jana Bauer. The books have delighted many audiences in three USA reading tours since 2007.
The books are already distinguished for the quality of the illustrations and the stories with two nominations and for two first prize awards in Slovenia. "Anton's Circus" was awarded the first prize for the best illustrated children's book in Slovenia in 2008.  "How Oscar became a Detective" was the recipient of the prestigious Desetnica Award in 2008 as the best children's book of the year. The works are translated by Erica Debeljak Johnson and may be viewed on http://www.spomincice.si .

Forget-Me-Nots in Schools and Workbook for Teachers
In Slovenian
The books have been introduced in primary schools in Slovenia in 2008 and are accompanied by a workbook for teachers in Slovenian of 24 pages. Reprinted in late 2009, copies will be sent to Australia. A copy is in the ISSV Library.
