The Temple of Hatshepsut
The charisma of the queen Hatshepsut has endured over millenia and earned her a place among great Egyptian sovereigns. Her temple is highly unusual, the work of architect Senmut. It had been destroyed and then rebuilt stone by stone in 1891, but it can never again match the magnificence of the past.
Egypt Travelog
The Egyptian albums are a record of the personal experience of Aleksandra Ceferin. a journey through Egypt in 2006. They are visual impressions of the enduring legacy of the great ancient civilisation. It is an encounter with mankind’s past which creates a sense of awe and wonder. The great temple monoliths astonish and amaze - the sheer scale of buildings and statues, the beauty and detail of workmanship, the messages that the images convey - of daily life, beliefs, and myths.
It is a civilisation that flourished over 5,000 years ago and left temples and monuments unparalleled in grandeur and magnificence; the pyramids were and still are one of the great wonders of the world. It remains a mystery how they were engineered and to what purpose. Some of the answers are chiselled on stone in images and a script that has been partly decoded. Egyptology research indicates a sophisticated people advanced in the sciences and philosophy, as observed by the Greek historian Herodutus, who had visited Egypt and was greatly influenced by what he saw and learnt.
Visiting Egypt is a strange experience. There is a feeling of timelessness that envelops you as soon as you leave behind the bustling city. Everything conspires to reinforce this feeling: the village men in their traditional galabiya, women in the black burkha or hegab. The mud brick villages, the donkeys and camels the villagers use for transport, are unchanged, so is the round flat bread - aish.It is the same bread that has been fossilized in the tombs.
